Wow, dad came home and we had fun then he turned on the computer and saw this:

http://www.sportingnews.com/soccer/story/2014-02-09/david-moyes-manchester-united-transfers-soccer-news

His only words were “What a nightmare come true!”

I am sorry they are going to do this dad….. I know after 40 years of supporting them.  You stuck with them through the relegation years, the rebuilding years and then the glory years.  You recently boycotted them because of David Moyes and now this…..  What?  David Moyes can’t roll up the toilet paper let along manage a football club?  Dad… why are you buring that Manchester United Sign?  Gasp…… your language…. oh my……  wow……

Wow, dad is really sad…. but I can see he is getting angry now…. white hot angry… wow.. I never saw a ball kicked so far…. please don;t kick my ball that far dad….. It would take me a week to find it….

dscf8128Wow, even I Ginger feel bad about this… I keep telling you old guy, come to the dark side… root on Liverpool!

What?  Wow, we can now listen together!!!!

Note- I am loyal to those I love or support. But, when they stupidly and repeatedly do what is worst for them and won’t change their ways I will let them know I don’t like it. If they persist I cannot take the pain of watching them destroy themselves and if I can’t help them I walk away…. Loyalty does not mean blind following or acceptance. There is a limit to everything.  Manchester United has crossed the line and after 40 years…. what a sad day…. I am through with them.  That they are going to let this Bozo rebuild this team is beyond my comprehension…. so I am joining what Ginger calls the darkside.   My new favorite of favorites is:

Liverpool

I have been a Reds fan for a long time… only they weren’t this Reds.  At least this club is trying to win and has a coach who knows how to coach.  Go Reds!  I wish I was happy about this change…. but it is a rather sad day fgor me… but I am not a blind fool and what United is doing is beyond my tolerance.  THis isn’t about winning or losing, its about how the team is coached, how they play… losing while putting up a battle is no bad thing… but not trying and sitting on leads and not going for it and losing is….. I could go on…. but what a sad day……

Go REDS!!!!

Welcome to the dark side old guy!!!!!

collies 1_

Usually by now we collies are at the window watching dad plow snow like in this picture.  Mom washed the drapes and cleaned the windows (they get lots of nose smudges for some reason!)In so we could watch our slave, er.. dad plow the driveway so he could get out to go to work to make sure we get fed! 🙂

In front of the window is Trevor…..

Alas, we have no snow on the ground so far…. so the old tractors rests and dad is thrilled for he hates snow!

So, we collies thought we would add a few Christmas suggestions to the Terhune and other books we mentioned earlier!

For Collie Lovers we suggest from the Terhune Memorial Society anything by the person who knows more about Terhune than anyone in our opinion;

Kristina Marshall.  We have her FOREVER FRIENDS and it is a thrilling and wonderful book about all the collies that lived at Sunnybank with the bloodlines coming out of Sunnybank!  This is a must have and just type in Terhune Memorial Society on Google to get more information or type in the book with Kristina Marshall’s name. 🙂 She also has several other book and all of them are GREAT!!!!

For Automobile Lovers;

A great read about the history of Henry Ford, his family through to the early 90’s, the Ford Company and the cars a excellent book is ;

FORD, THE MEN AND THE MACHINE by Robert Lacey

For the best biography about Henry Ford we have read and can recommend volume one of the three volume set by Nevins.  Volume one covers Henry Ford, his family life, Ford Motor Company, the cars and his other activities up to 1915.  It is fascinating to see the beginnings of the Ford Company and how they did all they could do to keep it going until it finally exploded into the beginning of the huge company it is now. This book is: FORD, THE TIMES, THE MAN, THE COMPANY

For Our fellow Footy Fans we recommend the following;

THE OFFICIAL HISTORY OF MANCHESTER UNITED with the forward by Sir Bobby Charlton.  It is by the football team and various volumes go from their beginnings to 2005, 2008, 2009, 2012.  They are all the same except for the year they end.  This is one great book of one great team!

UNITED; THE FIRST 100 Years by Paul Joannou is the best history of the wonderful Magpies of Newcastle!!!!

For Movie Lovers we recommend;

THE QUIET MAN with John Wayne and Maureen O’ Hara

HIS GIRL FRIDAY with Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant

For the men;

Any Three Stooges Films

For the Women;

Any movie with Katharine Hepburn

Hopefully this will help……

Friendlies are starting  and while we can’t listen to them here in the states I am beginning to get the longing to see some footy!!!  Will Manchester United repeat as Champions?  Will the beloved Magpies move up and make a challenge?  How will those Baggies of West Bromwich do?  How will one of my new favs, the Bluebirds of Cardiff City do?  Will Crystal Palace fly like Eagles in the PL this season?  Oh, I can’t wait!!!

Meanwhile the collies are beginning their annual Celtic/Rangers rumble with the Celtic brigade led by lil Hallie rubbing it in hard for the Celtics took the cup in Scotland!!!  But, the Ranger collie army is still supporting their team which has fallen on hard times….

But, just to kick it off I can’t help meself….

Meanwhile in the collie yard….

000_0007It’s time!!!!  Celtic!!!!  Rangers!!!!  Celtic!!! Rangers!!! You dirty $%@#%@$%$%!!!!!  grrrrrrr…….

Lil Hallie here.  Dad is one Footy fool!  He follows Celtic on Twitter with their minutely update…. he listened to QPR get in a spirited tie (he loves underdogs and is rooting for them to get out of relegation), he felt bad for the Baggies of West Bromwich who lost.  But, today I have to say I never seen him more excited about a fixture.

Manchester United playing at Manchester City!  Dad was revved up and we were right there with him…. Rooney scored early and dad roared his approval as we joined in barking and jumping about!  Then Rooney shortly after nailed another one and dad was roaring again as we joined in. The battle roared on on the net and the second half saw City finally score. But, dad was not dismayed for as he says “They are the mighty United!”  However, towards the end of the match City scored and tied it up.  Dad said some words that are not appropriate here and dug in for the final minutes.

It was hard for City turned it on but time after time great plays by the Red Devils beat them back.  IT went into 4 minutes extra and after over 2 minutes United got the ball and passed it to Ferdinand who roared down the pitch passing to Rooney who was by the net (dad was screaming and then on his chair standing up screaming on the chair) and then Rooney passed to Van Persie… dad’s favorite!!!

THe world went into slow motion… dad stopped yelling….. the announcers say he fires……. the stadium is dead quiet… dad is dead quiet.. we collies look on waiting….. then the crowd roars a deafening roar….. but what happened?  The announce begins to speak  but it is too late…. We can hear them…. the United Faithful singing “GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!! GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!!”  Dad roars louder than ever jumping up and down like a idiot… we join in bouncing around and howling our approval as dad joins in bellowing “We’re the famous Man United and we are going to Wembley! Wembley, Wembley, We are the famous Man United and we’re going to Wembley!!!” I jump up on to lick his face and he grabs me and we do a dance across the floor….. wow, he is excited…. he even kissed Ginger (yuk) and we roared our joy as dad kept cheering!  Lad ran to the hallway and grabbed his ball and stood there holding it proudly as if he was saying They did it dad!!!

After several minutes of celebrating, we got treats, dad drank a Stout in one gulp and we cheered again!

Then we went outside and ran all the way around the yard making lots of noise as dad was still cheering!  Hmmmm…… I began to wonder if he lost his mind but decided if we got treats when Man United wins I am going to cheer too!

A 6 point lead over City, 10 over Chelsea and a 13 point lead over Everton.  Tomorrow are the Newcastle United Magpies!  Go Magpies… win for we like the treats!!!

Next time I am wearing City Blue that will teach him to kiss me!!!

What a footy weekend!  Manchester United takes on powerful Arsenal after defeating Chelsea last weekend and comes out with another win and when Chelsea is tied and City also tied the Red Devils move into first!!!!   We cheered loud and long on this one…. in fact the collies became so rowdy they had to go outside to burn it off… me thinks it was planned by those devlish collies!

Then today the Magpies of Newcastle go into the roaring den at Anfield and end up going into halftime in the lead and then being a man short in the second half they hold off the Liverpool Reds who mounted a fierce offensive blitz for a tie!   Howay the Lads!!!!  The black and white collie brigade marched with the Toon Army on this one……

The collies cheered but were disappointed with a draw for Celtic and Dundee United…. especially since Celtic led 2-0 with 2 minutes regulation and 3 minutes stoppage left….  So the Green Army collies were a bit let down but still celebrated it not being a loss…

Then we listened to Queens Park Rangers whom we like to follow.  Its been a ruff season and this game was a barn burner with both QPR and Reading both at the bottom of the League running wide open with lots of shots.  Reading led going into Half and then QPR came back and tied it and in a late game wide open pounding of the goals at both ends with saves spectacular bring the crowd to its feet continuously it ended in a tie.  What a hugely exciting match with a lot of action for a tie……

Tomorrow night it is the Baggies of West Bromwich Albion, whom we have a soft spot in our hearts for,  looking to move up to 6th with a win over last place Southhampton…. Go Baggies.

FInally, Stoke City whom we also like to follow lost to the Canaries of Norwich City 1-0 and continue their standing in the lower half of the middle of the table. The Potters have played some tough fixtures this season but most have been ties…… but we get a lot of fun from following the Potters.

THe collies love football matches streaming on the net…. the crowd noises fascinate them, they all gather around the computer corner and like to bark their approval when things go well responding to my cheers…..

A wild weekend of Footy and we had a lot of fun in between my working and fixing my Allis Chalmers B which is now ready for winter plowing. 🙂

Footy!  Blah, blah, blah… I Ginger want to know what happened to Wolverhampton!!!!  While I am it, Lad dont need this ball… think I will throw it over the fence so he can look at it for hours till dad gets home from work to rescue it for him… muwhahahahahahah

A rocking good time today as Manchester United went into the home of Chelsea for the battle of the season.  Chelsea if they won could drop the Red DEvils to third and if the Red Devils won they would be in second only one point behind the Blues.  Well, what a war, my man Van Persie booted a left footer in and the collies and I roared our approval of a 3-2 win!!!!! The Red Army marches on!

Then, my Magpies of Newcastle took on the Baggies of West Bromwich Albion.  What a battle to literally the end.  Demba Ba booted one in early and the Baggies tied it up.  literally, with seconds left Cisse booted in the winner and Lad led the cheers as we had a howling good time celebrating a big win by the Magpies!!!  The Toon Army Marches on!!!!!

Unfortunately the collies have blood in their eyes now after the disappointing loss mid-week and then the loss at home this weekend. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….. But, Celtic still leads the SPL…… The Green Army is still out front! 🙂

Excuse us Dad we are off to Scotland to support Celtic!!!!

They won again!!! Way to go Manchester United!!! YAY!!!!  What a war it was, we collies were shocked when Stoke City took the lead but then when United poured it on after the halftime we were in awe!  Still in the hunt, Go RED DEVILS!!!!  We had to laugh when the Red Devils almost took a 4-1 lead with a kick that went through the keepers hands but hit him square in the face and dad said… “There is a Mug Shot for ya!”  What a mean man….. hehehehe

From 1902 thru 1906 he was the mascot of Manchester United and he was the most important mascot they had. You see, Manchester United was at the time called Newton Heath and they were bankrupt.  So, they held a fundraiser to help save the club and Major, well he wandered off with the money box around his neck.

But, as luck would have it a local brewery owner found him and thought about adopting the dog for his daughter until the dog’s owner showed up wanting him back.  John Henry Davies did give Major back and became interested in the football club and rescued it from the abyss.  During the rescue the name was changed to Manchester United and the history of Footy in England was influenced more than anyone at the time could ever imagine.

Below is a pic of Major…..

Major was succeeded by Billy the Goat.  Billy was the mascot from 1906-1909…. when he passed away from drinking too much champagne during United’s FA Cup victory celebration with the players.  They still have Billy’s head believe it or not…… by the way Billy was owned by the great Charlie Roberts and seemed to have acquired the taste for alcohol from his previous owners.  It is said Billy went to all the Pubs with the players and got his share of drinks also…

The tension builds and the rivalry cause some discord across the meadow.  You see the Manchester United Red Devils, my favorite club are going up to Newcastle to play the Magpies at St. James!  Newcastle United is of course my second favorite club….  This is going to be a tough one for the Reds need the win to stay right next to the top of the table while the Magpies need a win to stay in the hunt!

I am going to enjoy this game…. but the collies are going for this at all….. the battle lines have been drawn!!!!

GLORY, GLORY MAN UNITED!!! GLORY, GLORY MAN UNITED!!!  As the Red go marching ON, ON, ON!!!!

Howay the Lads!  Howay the Lads!

Despite all the marching and singing there is one song they all can agree upon and become truly UNITED!
My apologies to anyone who is a fan of Sunderland….

Time for some Footy dad? By the way, guess who I, Lad is rooting for?  Anyone who has a song Howay the LAD is for me!  Dad, why are you holding your head in your hands again?
