Around here many things are referred too very tongue in cheek and that is the description of the ball Laddie has had for years now.  Let me give you the story of the Jesus Ball.

Years ago when Laddie was little we had a old soccer ball that our children had played with and had left out in the weather and the leather cover was cracking on each of the hexagon spots.  It was a bit soft which was okay for I figured Lad could pick it up that way.

I showed it to him and I threw it and he of course chased it and caught it on the first bounce after it hit the ground. He took off with it and I kept telling him to bring it to me but he wanted me to chase him with it. Something he still would love for me to do, but I am getting to old to run that much.  The first time he brought the ball back I praised him and his eyes lit up, he loved the praise,. I threw it again and he chased it and after a bit of coaxing brought it up to me and I took it and threw it and it was the beginning of something I had no idea it would become, but more on that later.

I began to kick Lad’s ball and no matter how far I kicked it he was there to get it on the first bounce and eventually he got so he could catch it coming down like Willie Mays with his back to it lifting his head and snaring it with his teeth.  Lad loved his ball and it has become an obsession of his life.  He takes the ball out with him and if he forgets to bring it in he will search till he finds it. He will not stop till he finds that ball!  He also will not stop laying ball with me… ever!!!

Through the years the leather fell off, then the inner cover fell off, the next rubber cover fell off till all that was left was the ratty cloth covering the “bladder” of the ball.  Last winter after years of playing it went flat. I patched it, but it blew another hole quickly and I realized it was shot.  So, all this year I’ve tried to give him new balls but he won’t part with that old flat ball.

The closest was a big inflated ball my buddy Pat at work gave me.  He showed interest but it quickly went flat and I figured it was popped.  Well, one day I picked it up and saw no holes and up came Lad with his ball.  But… the bladder was gone and it was then I saw Rutherford and Walter each with a half of the bladder in their mouths.  Lad looked up at me, looked at them, looked at me and held out the ball with his mouth and blinked…..I reached for the ball and he turned his head his eyes gleaming with mischief. Finally, he gave it to me and I threw the cloth remains a whole 20 feet and saw the disappointment in his face. So, I  picked up the ball Pat gave me shoved it inside his cloth remains and ran for the car and the air pump. I pumped up the ball and heard him crying in the back yard, impatiently waiting for me to return. He knew something was up with his ball….. he was hoping for the best but dreading the worst.

The pump finished inflating the ball, which I left a touch soft and it fit perfectly!!!! So, I came out into the yard with it and showed it to Lad who lit up like a Christmas tree.  He watched in glee as I kicked the ball and took off like lightning chasing it and it hit the ground and bounced right into his mouth!  He pranced around and looked so happy!!!!

WE played ball for over an hour and when I came in I showed him where I put his ball and he was satisfied where it was and happy it was safe.  Since then the ball has again popped and I have patched it three times, put another ball cover over it and it is still falling apart. But, it still survives and he loves it!  I have a plan to get it back together with another ball put with it to make a whole ball again. But, in the meantime it still works.

So, his ball was dead but now it is alive…. that is why it is the Jesus Ball! LOL…..  Lad lives for that ball and despite my best efforts he won’t part with it.  So, we will play with the remains till his time is gone and when that moment of parting comes I will hug his remains for the last time and gently put hit ball in his mouth and wrap him in a blankie and with a broken heart move on sadly…… but till that day we will play for endless hours with his ball!  The Jesus ball that died and came back….. several times!!!

You all know how the old guy loves Liverpool. Well, I Ginger have taken over this blog because I have something to say. As you all know I am sort of twisted and bitter at times but I am proud.  I am sick of being in the shadows as the plotting world dictator wannabe.  I am that, but I am much more. You see, I keep this place hopping and active and if it werent for me this place would be boring.

My ideas and plots are fantastic and yet that old guy blunders along and survives it all and somehow comes out on top….

Well, I am upping the ante now… IO am going to increase my activity and even add one more activity to my long lists of annoying the old guy!  You see, I am bitter, twisted and proud.  You know what that all means.  I have had it!  I am going to root on Everton from now on!  After all, we have a lot in common!  They live next to this stinking winner that overshadows them all the time as they do all the hard work and heavy lifting.   They get ignored, pushed around and stopped at every turn.  Somehow their best plots and plans go up in smoke.  Better yet, they were the home of David Moyes… muwahahahahaha  Did the old guy ever tell you all how he despises David Moyes?

So, I Ginger come out of the  closet and declare I Ginger am a Everton Toffees fan. The BLues are also nicknamed the Dogs of War…. sort of fitting isn’t it?  hehehehe  Watch as this dog of war takes it to the old guy….

dscf4795-His truck is blue so naturally I painted Everton on the door…. mmuwahahahahahahah

4-22_surrounded_by_collies-Notice the color of the wall?  Well naturally it needed Everton painted on it… snicker…

dscf8693-wait… what is this?  What do you mean my blankie is a Red one with Liverpool written on it?  A red Liverpool food dish and you painted my plotting room.. RED????????????????  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!  When I take over the world I will plow Anfield under… what?  You yawned… oh this means war old guy…  remember I am in charge of the blog now… muwahahahahah

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAW4XcpzLMU-take that old guy!

We collies enjoyed Dad’s day off with him. It made it to 21 degrees F so we played outside with him, then he got all the tractors out, plowed the driveway, drove the tractors around and then came in and was going through the channels to see what was on TV when he found Liverpool live against Bolton in FA Cup action.  So, we watched the game and it was pretty silent for most of it.  The Officiating was pretty terrible and Bolton scored off a somewhat questionable call in the second half to take the lead.  A few shots off the post kept us interested but then Bolton was penalized and down to ten men and Liverpool began to threaten, but the movement that made them so dangerous last year just wasn;t there.  Dad was grumbling, we collies were sullen when all of a sudden very late in the game the “swirl” as dad calls it appeared. They began to move like they did last year and began to pound the goal. We all began to take notice and the Reds put the pressure on.  Then at the 86th minute Sterling kicked in a pass that scored and we collies roared our approval as dad cheered.  There hasn’t been a lot to cheer this year for while the Reds are now winning during the season they clearly won’t even get in this race, but they can make the top 5…..  Stoppage time began and the Reds were still pounding and dad was on his feet urging them on while we collies waited… then… in stoppage time with the game almost over Coutinho flipped one in and it was an excuse for us collies to bark our heads off in celebration as the Reds were moving on in the next round in the FA Cup!  This was the 700th appearance by Gerrard who will be leaving at the end of the year… so perhaps the Reds can capture the FA Cup to end his career at Anfield.  We shall see…..   a few pics from today….

As you all know we love English Footy here and with Liverpool sucking this season there hasn’t been much to celebrate.  However, today we turn on the tellie and what do we see? The Semi-finals of the Scottish Cup!!!!  Now you all know the collies are Ccottish and in the past we have had near riots with the Celtic-Rangers rivalry. Well, lo and behold who is playing… Celtic vs. Rangers and the Celtic are home!  The near riot is on and the passions running high for the collies and with Celtic just scoring and leading 1-0 the passions are running high!  The question isn’t who will win but will we survive…..

The old guy likes to read and then apply or see the things he reads about.  ONe of his first favorites was was a book about Daniel Boone.  Recently on the Internet archive, where they have tons of old books he found that exact book for his kindle and read it with much joy.  When he grew up the Old Guy visited the rebuilt Boonesborough ….

Another early book he enjoyed was about Buffalo Bill Cody… a few years ago he found the book and bought it…. this book was his favorite for years and he regularly checked it out of the library.  Now he has his own copy and keeps its in a glass door bookshelf…. someday he plans on visiting Buffalo Bill’s grave…. just as he did Daniel Boone’s.

41fjsZAiYZL._SS500_-This is the book.. it is nothing special but the memories…

-The old guy loved Terhune’s books when he was a kid and has collies now and wants to visit Sunnybank.  He studied lots of Presidents, visited their homes…  he loved Fords, tractors and had other hobbies he read about then either visited the sites, graves or used the items he studied.

What we collies are trying to say is it is great for ppl to read about things, but what really brings it to life is seeing, visiting, using, making a hobby of or whatever of the things you read about.  Don’t just live through other ppl’s experiences or lives, visit those places, see those things or bring those items into your lives and use them.  It gives you hands on experience and fullfills your wisdom in ways you can’t even imagine.

Dad loved collies when he was a kid, Lassie and Terhune made him want collies.  When he grew up he made us part of his life.  Through this he came to realize that the things written about collies by Terhune and others were true and that like those who wrote about collies, his life was heavily impacted by our presence.  The triumphs, love, life and finally tragedies were more than he could have ever imagined and it made the books of Terhune come even more alive for he experienced those things.

What we are trying to say is dont just observe, study or read about things.  That is great and dad loves it himself. But, bring it into your life, experience it, do it.  Why?  Because then you experience life and it makes the things you read about come to life!  You gain insights and wisdom and breath and live what you have read about enriching your life.  When you read it again you will see the books through different eyes and enjoy them even more… but most of all your life will be richer also.

Dad read about and loved collies. Then he had us and we changed his life in many ways and he has come to treasure Terhune even more.  He never dreamed that would happen…. while he has lost many a collie he loved he would never give up one moment to take away the pain for the pleasures, love, joy and life experiences far outweighs the pain he has felt.  So, do read and enjoy things… but live it!  Only then will you get the fullness of what life can be…. most of all love and be loved….  and whent he time comes…. you will be mourned more deeply than any mere collie or human should be mourned…. live…. love and live while you can….

-Reading about collies is one thing… living your life with them  brings your readings to life and brings your life much joy, love and fullfillment.  Whatever you enjoy reading, watching or seeing, make it part of your life…  you won;t regret it…. 🙂  Imagine how boring the old guy’s life would be without us…. especially Ginger! Muwahahahaha  Okay, we wrestled the computer from Ginger but are leaving her comment there for you… for how boring would his life be without her?  How empty would his life had been without Trevor? Niamh? Both Hallies?

A cold, rainy weekend.  So, Dad put the blade on the tractor, got us out between the rain storms to run and looked for a new job and listened to the Reds lose again, the Canadiens win again and was highly entertained by the Maple Leafs as they continue their all offense, no defense hockey games which are proving to be the most highly entertaining games dad has heard in a while.

We collies yawned at the Reds.. they looked horrible again…. the Canadiens give us opportunity to celebrate and the Leafs, well it is overwhelming!

Snow is coming and dad is not liking it.  But, Old Allis is ready and itching to give the snow a real butt kicking.   As for use collies, we think we will just take a nap! 🙂

This is Lad here…. Today it cooled off and dad had to go to a family picnic but he promised when he got home he would throw my ball.

I’m waiting Dad!  I can’t wait!!!!

Imagine my sadness and dismay when we couldnt find the ball.  We searched and searched but no ball!!!!

Where is my ball?

We looked all over outside…. but no ball! WHERE IS MY BALL?!!!!  This is what I would look like if I only had my ball!!!

Dad went inside and looked for the ball… he will not give up!! I know Dad… he will not quit till he finds my ball!  He had been looking for over a hour and a half.  Someone remembers seeing Rutherford with it one day so he may have brought it in…..

Here comes Dad!  Whats has he got? MY BALL!!!!!! YAY!!! Throw it dad! Throw it!!!  You found it under the couch?  Darn old Rutherford!!!!  Yay!!!   Look dad, here I am with my ball!

I know you’ve thrown it 74 times dad….. but one more time?  Really? Thank you Dad! Wheeeeeeeee!!!!

So, as the sun sets here at the Meadow a happy Lad lays on the floor smiling with his ball next to him……  To many it may seem silly… but you must remember the only thing Lad has that he can call his own is that old beat up ball….. he has had it since he was 3 months old…. he loves playing with it and even though we have tried to give him a new ball he will not give up the old wreck of a ball…. for it is his…. I think it is a small thing to make him happy and that is all I want for Laddie…. is him to be happy…..  Lad is six now and I dont know if his ball will last the length of his life but if it does I will bury it with him… for Laddie’s ball is his… and even in death he should not be parted from it… silly perhaps on my part…. but I love seeing him happy…..and perhaps I know I would not be able to bear seeing his ball sit there without him….. it would be too heartbreaking…

Life is good again for I have my ball!!! 🙂

Several things to cover today….. first the Liverpool Reds.  They kicked the snot out of Tottenham and finally looked like the team they were last year. Could it be they have finally come together?  Next week is Aston Villa and with the Reds only three points out of first the fever is catching!  With Gerrard punching one in today the collies and I were cheering and dancing for the first time this year.  If they knock out Aston Villa they could be on their way for the hunt.  We shall see…. but they have to beat such teams as Manchester City which last week they failed at.  But, it is early and a lot of changes have been made.   So, time to celebrate!!!

Onto tractor news.  Finally got old Molly, the 1941 Allis Chalmers WC paint repaired and she looks great!     Old Molly is my most stubborn tractor…. now you are asking how can a tractor be stubborn?  Well, old tractors are like old cars. They have personalities, quirks and seem human much of the time.  Molly is stubborn.  She fights me on everything I do…. but, she grudgingly gives and then when repaired sits there looking like “what’s next human?  Bring it on?”  I’ve threatened to sell her many a time, but she knows better.  If I needed a tractor in an emergency she would be my choice for whatever I needed to move she would do it…. just to prove she could.   Old Allis would faithfully do it, and Annie the Case SC would be all too willing and would get the job done. But, Molly would knock down the walls to do it for she thrives on hard work… the harder the better.

dscf8858– Old Molly in the winter… it’s only -15 out here.. no big deal….

-Today I changed the transmission fluid and filter in my HHR.  What is the big deal you say?  Well, for those who don;t know it has no dipstick to check the fluid and when you fill it up you have to run it through the gears and leave it running while you remove the overflow drain plug and fill it until it comes out the overflow.  Well, ya know what Chevrolet?  I have a 1949 Case SC that you do the same thing too… and it also has a canister oil filter instead of a spin on just like you!  70 years later  car companies have went back to what tractors were doing 70 years ago… the more things change the more they stay the same….. I also fixed the dash board light by replacing something Ginger called a “cellynoid for the charcoal canister.”  It worked…. so I felt good about that today too.  I also hung up a new light in my garage and can actually see on all sides now in the dark! YAY!!!

dscf4795-Collies Transport Unit #1 is ready to go and the collies are cheering! Since I fixed the garage door also, now it can get in and out too!

-So, it has been a productive weekend!  Tomorrow it is all collie day all day except for a hour with the tractors!    The collies want to share something with you that I shared with them…….

collies 3– Dad told us this and we agree…  “We love old tractors for old tractors have souls.” – Roger Welsch   That they do and we collies were flattered when dad added… “”And so do collies and that is why we love them too.”
