Brrrr… it is cold. The collies of course love it with all that fur…. and they get especially rowdy playing in the snow. Soon, the snow will get deep and then we will do the annual collie bowl and everyday chase each other in the snow… Through the years we have had a lot of fun in the snow and this year should be no exception.
With all the running, tackling and bumping going on no one has ever gotten crushed which is sort of a miracle I guess. In fact in all our rough play in the snow I have only been knocked down once. And in all the years of playing with the collies I have been knocked down twice and the non-snow event is on film for those who remember seeing it. Both times I have been knocked down my the biggest collie to ever live here.. Mick who is 125 pounds!
Unlike the non-snow knock down the snow event was much more wild. We were running through the deep snow full speed when from behind came Mick who hit me with his whole weight and at full speed. Now, he hit me low so my feet flew up and out in front of me. As I watched my feet go up higher than my head the only thing I could think of was that this was not good and it was gonna hurt! One of my uncanny abilities in life has been the ability to think during such a event and come out of it okay. This time was no exception.
Instinctively I turned my hips and flung my left leg as I turned y hips making my body turn on its side mid-air. As I came down I pulled my knees up to my chest and this caused my legs to go lower than my head and I landed in some deep snow on my side unharmed other than a couple of bruises…..
As I lay there thinking on how I would get that Mick I look up at all the collies standing around me in a circle looking down at me….. then one stepped forward and licked my face and hugged me with its front legs and it was of course.. Mick. How could I stay mad….. When I got up they all jumped around and barked like nuts and I guess they were celebrating I was okay or perhaps that I was going to live to give them treats.. LOL
Through the years Mick went from one of the smallest collies born here to the biggest. I spent the first two months of his life working to keep him alive for he was so small and weak and so far behind the other collies in growth. But, once he started going he not only caught up but surpassed them all in size. Now, he is one of the most loyal collies here at the Meadow. As you can see below we are pretty good buddies….
Believe it or not he is even bigger now!

One happy face (Mick that is)

Bowsers, hard to stay mad at Mick. Given the way the Browns have been playing, maybe he could get a shot at playing linebacker. BOL
We think they could use several Micks…. wow… been a tough season!
Mick probably still thinks he’s that tiny baby collie you helped save.
I can’t imagine being hit by a 125 pound flying ball of collie… egad!! That would be like being hit by 12 and a half Miss Bella Moos.. all at once!! She’s little but she’s solid as a rock.. lol. I would definitely be down for the count!
He might…. its amazing through over 20 years of collies and with the large group we have that I have not been run into and smucked more often!!! The way they run full speed and swirl around me when we play it amazes me even more….. that only Mick has done it does not surprise me.. LOL… they are solid too no matter the size as you well know with Miss Moo
Mick is a gorgeous giant. Cupcake ran around in circles in the snow till she made HERSELF fall over!!
Genevieve and Cupcake, that sounds like what Bubba and I call wizzy dizzies! Chuck, Mick is gorgeous and I love that last photo.
Wizzy dizzy should be Cupcake’s middle name!
